That’s right! Every Residency Program participating in the 2013 Match is prohibited from taking any candidate out of the match!
Another words, NO MORE Pre-Matching!

Yesterday, the residency programs officially submitted their rank order lists for the 2012 NRMP Residency Match. All we can do now is wait…. SOAP week is March 12-15.
The residents and I were called to evaluate a 30-year-old woman with a 7 day history of intermittent right upper quadrant abdominal pain and jaundice.
She had no significant past medical or surgical history, took no medications on a regular basis and had no risk factors for hepatitis or HIV.
The only pertinent physical exam findings were jaundice and right upper quadrant tenderness. The AST, ALT and total bilirubin levels were 256, 415 and 8.5 respectively.
The abdominal/pelvic CT scan with contrast obtained in the emergency room showed a common bile duct of 10 mm.
The residents’ question: “How sensitive and specific are imaging studies of the biliary tree to determine the cause of common bile duct dilatations?”
How would you answer this question?
It’s November 8, 2011. You may not be getting as many interviews as expected… what did you do wrong?
Possibly, nothing! There are many reasons why you have not been offered an interview. Here is a short-list of possibilities:
1. You applied to too few programs.
2. You applied to programs that are too competitive.
3. You did not research the NRMP: Results and Data 2011: Main Residency Match prior to choosing a specialty, to realistically evaluate your chances of obtaining a residency position.
4. Your USMLE scores are too low.
5. You failed one of the USMLE exams.
6. One of your USMLE exams is still pending on your USMLE transcript.
7. One (or more) of your Letters of Recommendations is still pending.
8. The interview slots are already filled for the residency programs you applied to. (we certainly can’t interview every qualified applicant!)
9. You have an unexplained extension of your medical studies.
10. Your personal statement was not reflective of who you are and why you chose to study medicine.
These are only a few reasons…… there are many, many more reasons……
Feel free to share your experiences/advice with others! Comment on this post.
The USMLE is changing the Step 2 CS exam!
What does this means?
They will NOT be administering the test from May 20, 2012 – June 16 2012.
And more importantly, the reporting schedule will be delayed by 2 – 3 weeks from June 17, 2012 – November 3, 2012.
If you are an International Medical Graduate planning to apply to the 2013 match, we recommend that you sign-up for the CS exam as soon as possible. Your should do your best to have Step 1 CK, Step 2 CK and Step 2 CS completed before your ERAS application “goes live”. (The first day your application can “go live” is September 1, 2012.)
Your applications are in….. you’re waiting for the interviews…… be prepared for your interview!!!
